Barbara Ann (Walsh) Daly
1925 ∼ 2021
Barbara Ann Daly, 95, passed away on February 10th. She was the daughter of Jesse and Viola Walsh. She was raised in Belmont, MA. She was predeceased by her siblings Jacqueline Kiley and Jesse Walsh Jr, and survived by her brother Whitney Walsh of Florida.
She married Thomas Daly, also of Belmont, on June 5, 1948. They were married for 35 years before he died in 1983. After Tom served in World War II, they raised a family in Shrewsbury. Barbara Ann and Tom moved to the Cape in 1973, living in Harwichport and East Dennis. Barbara Ann had always looked forward to moving to the Cape. There she pursued her passion of watercolor painting and for several years served as a volunteer with local school art departments. She later spent over two decades at Kings Way in Yarmouthport before moving to Chatham.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Sullivan, and her husband, Thomas, of Chatham; her son Steven Daly and his wife, Sharon, of Chappaquiddick. In addition she is survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren all of whom affectionately called her “Mum.”
Barbara Ann raised a close and devoted family and she supported countless friends and extended family. During her time on the Cape, she was the consummate host to friends, family, and often her family’s friends. Her door was open to all and a meal moments away. Even late in life, she jumped at the next adventure, whether a trip, a day at the beach, a party, or clamming. She had a unique gift for making everyone feel comfortable and supported in times of fun or challenge, and was always ready to help. Even her grandchildren’s friends regarded her as a friend. Her life was so dominated by laughter and optimism, it is hard to remember tears. Her laugh and smile will remain in our hearts forever. She always said that she had a simple, but very happy life.
Barbara’s family would like to thank the entire staff at the Victorian and Liberty Commons for their amazing and devoted care.
Due to COVID there are no calling hours and at a later date there will be a Celebration of Life. The family requests any donations be made to Barbara Ann’s favorite charity St Jude’s Children Hospital.
