They purchased a home in Chatham in the 60’s, where the whole family enjoyed memorable summers and adventurous boat rides in his Boston Whaler. He was a proud graduate of Boston College and an avid fan of their sports programs, especially their football team. Walter also enjoyed coaching many different hockey teams over the years. In 1982, Walter and his family permanently moved to Cape Cod. Walter will be remembered for his love of children, a good joke, taking walks, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. He could always be found in his favorite chair or outside on the front porch enjoying his music and a cigar. He enjoyed traveling, cruises, family ski trips and especially visiting Civil War memorial sites. He leaves behind his beloved wife, his children Jacqueline M. Ganshirt and her husband William of Brewster, MA; Patricia A. Smith and her husband Timothy of Lowell, MA; Maureen E. Tomkins and her husband Robert of Burlington, MA; Susan A. Kovac and her husband Mark of Orleans, MA; Walter J. Kane, Jr. of Chatham, MA; William F. Kane and his wife Catherine of East Harwich, MA; Eileen M. Kane of Eastham, MA; Daniel P. Walter also enjoyed visits from his five great-grandchildren - Avery, Ethan, Joseph, Connor and Lucas. Walter leaves his sister Bernice Deignan of Chatham, MA and many nieces and nephews.
