Bob was born on March 31, 1934 in Worcester, MA. He was a graduate of South High School and Holy Cross College. Throughout his life, Bob was active with the Cape Cod Crusaders, the Holy Cross Alumni Club on Cape Cod, and served as a college class agent for a number of years.
Bob worked in the insurance industry until retirement, including as an underwriter at Worcester Insurance Company (now Nationwide), and as an independent agent at Carlson Daniels Insurance in Westboro. A lifelong learner, Bob earned his CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) and CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) designations, and then served as President of the Worcester Chapter of CPCU. After retirement, Bob volunteered with several non-profit organizations, including the Road to Recovery, American Cancer Society, and Sight Loss Services.
Bob traveled extensively with Peggy, including to England and Ireland, Hawaii, and Florida, where they visited with family while avoiding the New England winters. He was an avid New England Sports fan, and particularly loved listening to his Holy Cross classmate Tommy Heinsohn calling Celtics games, and the Red Sox winning the World Series. He loved going out to breakfast on Sunday mornings, and was a frequent visitor to both the Red Cottage and Grumpy’s in Dennis. After breakfast, Bob and Peggy would routinely go to the beach to read the Sunday newspapers. Bob loved to paint, gracing his family members with beautiful pictures. He was also an avid golfer, and often retold the story of his hole-in-one at Bass River Golf Course. Bob was also an active member of the Kings Way “Wonks”.
The outdoors was where Bob was the happiest, taking walks around the neighborhood, the beach and the Audubon trails on the Cape. His vegetable garden overflowed for decades, and he was particularly proud of his tomatoes.
A long-time parishioner of St. Pius Church in South Yarmouth, MA, Bob often attended mass on Saturday afternoons in the Chapel in Yarmouthport.
Visitation will be held on Thursday February 18, at beginning at 10 AM at St. Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth, followed by a funeral Mass in Bob’s honor at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
