Richard E. Holt, 63, of Sandwich and formerly of Mashpee, passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2021 at Cape Cod Hospital.
Richard was born on January 10, 1957 in Northampton, MA to the late Robert Eugene Holt and Evelyn May Sanford-Holt. Richard grew up and attended schools in East Bridgewater, MA where he was active in sports, graduating in 1975. He pursued his passion for cooking, studying culinary arts at Northeastern University, and becoming a talented gourmet chef. In order to have more time with his children, he transitioned his career to his second passion as a master finish carpenter. He was truly a skilled and dedicated craftsman, approaching each job with detailed precision and an artistic devotion.
Richard was a simple man and approached his life with gratitude. He was always there to lend a helping hand or cook someone a meal, and did so with a smile. “Everyday is an excellent day,” he would say, “What do I have to complain about?” He loved spending time with his children, often playing pool, a game he loved, but truly he was able to have fun in everything he did. He enjoyed listening to music, especially classic oldies. Before his passing, just a few days before his 64th birthday, he danced and sang with his daughter Ali to the Beatles, “When I’m Sixty Four”, which he said was finally relevant. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every single day.
More than anything, Richard adored his children, his grandson, his family, and friends. He will be forever remembered as a genuine, kind and loving gentleman, and greatly missed by those who love him.
Richard is survived by his loving children, son Nicholas James Holt, and fiancé Haley Marie, and grandson Riley James Holt of Fryeburg, ME, and daughter Alyssa Christen Holt, and partner Clayton, of Blue Hill, ME; his loving mother, Evelyn May Sanford-Holt, of East Bridgewater, MA; brother Robert Andrew Holt, and wife Terri, of East Bridgewater, MA; brother Paul Sanford Holt, of Falmouth, MA; sister Allison May Holt-Almeida, and husband James, of East Bridgewater; former wife and mother of his children, Susan James, of Castine, ME; as well as many nieces, nephews and great friends.
A celebration of Richard’s life will take place at a later date.
