Paul R. Sullivan

Paul Robert Sullivan, 88, of Centerville passed away on January 30, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara, to whom he was married for 56 years.

Paul was the son of the late Timothy and Mildred (Lammers) Sullivan. He grew up in Roslindale, MA. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed in California and Japan. He was proud to be one of five Sullivan brothers who all served in the Navy. After his service, he graduated from Boston College and Suffolk Law School. He worked for many years for the U.S. Department of Labor, first as attorney to the Secretary of Labor for four years, then relocating with his family to Centerville in 1973, where he worked for the Cape and Islands division, eventually retiring in 1981. Paul then became the Director of Human Resources for the Town of Barnstable until 1997. Paul loved being involved in the community. He served as the treasurer for the Cape Cod chapter of the Disabled American Veterans, served on the Town of Barnstable Licensing Board, and on the Civic Association. He proudly served as a Fire Commissioner for the Hyannis Fire Department for eighteen years until 2015.

Paul was always on the go and enjoyed drives and trips to visit family. He was a devout catholic and his faith played a large part in his life, especially in recent years. He was extremely proud of raising his four children with his wife Barbara. He especially enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren. He is survived by his children Mary C. Sullivan of Centerville, Nancy and Mark Gatanti of Ventura, CA, Beverlee and Peter Aylmer of East Falmouth, MA, and Paul R. Sullivan, Jr of Centerville, MA, and three grandchildren Ryan and Matthew Aylmer of East Falmouth, MA and Abigail Sullivan of Centerville, MA, his brothers Richard Sullivan and his wife Meg of Chester, NH, Edward Sullivan and his wife Elaine of Pottstown, PA, and Daniel Sullivan of Foxboro, MA, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Paul was also predeceased by his brother Timothy Sullivan, and sisters Elizabeth Clarkin and Pauline Coleman.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Friday, February 12th at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230. So. Main Street, Centerville, MA 02632.

Burial will follow the Mass at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:15.
