Mary E. McDermott, age 91, died peacefully on February 14, 2021. Mary was the loving daughter of Irish immigrants, Patrick and Mary (Conroy) Joyce. She was born in Boston on December 23, 1929. Mary married her loving husband of 45 years, Arthur P. McDermott, on December 1, 1951 who preceded her in death in 1996. Mary lived a full life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother and aunt. She was the loving mother of Michael P. McDermott and his wife Mary of New Hampshire, Patrick J. McDermott and his wife Janet of Dorchester, and Mary E. Hess and her husband Russell of Bridgewater. She was a proud and loving “Nana” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary was the sister of the late Martin Joyce, Thomas Joyce, Ann Doucet and cousin of many.
She spent 15 years working at the Salvation Army in Hanover, where she made wonderful friendships. Mary loved listening and dancing to her Irish music, attending gatherings with friends and family and enjoyed her weekly outings to visit with friends at the Hanover Senior Center. She loved traveling to the West Coast to visit with family and spending time with her nieces. Mary was a devout Catholic, who cherished attending mass and events at St. Basil Chapel in Bridgewater.
She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
A special thanks to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at Nemasket Healthcare Center for the loving care they provided to Mary.
All services for Mary will be held privately.
