Mary E. (King) Makie, age 88, of Wareham died peacefully on January 13, 2021 while in the comfort of her family. Mary was the beloved daughter of the late Henry and Isobel (Harrington) King and grew up in Framingham. She was a graduate of Framingham High School, Class of 1950.

Mary loved bowling all of her life and met her first husband Paul J. Lauretti one evening while bowling with friends. The two married on August 25, 1955 and raised their children in Somerville, often vacationing at Hampton Beach NH.

When Paul passed away, Mary provided for her younger children and would persevere. She was beautiful and an extraordinary Mom who enjoyed having fun and being out and about. She then married her friend, George Beckonert and the two decided to make a big move from Somerville to Wareham. They honey mooned in Bermuda, and enjoyed retirement together.  She always loved the ocean and Wareham was a great place to continue raising her youngest child.

Mary suffered through some difficult times as George also predeceased her. She put one foot in front of the other and made the best of it. She found great comfort in her children and close girlfriends after George passed away. In later years she met and married a fisherman named Douglas W. Makie. Mary always loved being on the Canal biking or waving goodbye to Doug as he set off on his fishing boat.

She always enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and was so grateful for all they did especially these last few years when her vision was diminished. Mary was a longtime member of both St. Patrick's Church in Wareham and St. Mary's Church in Buzzards Bay. Mary was feisty, fun loving, mentally tough, and caring. She was a great bowler in her younger and older years and enjoyed quilting with her friend. She loved the Red Sox, listening to Country Western music and having the occasional beer with her family and friends.

Mary was the devoted mother of Joseph F. Lauretti of CT, Paul V. Lauretti and his wife MaryBeth of Medford, Beth A. Lauretti and her life partner Christopher Jolliemore of Wareham, Jeannette M. Johnson of Middleboro, and the late Mary K. Lauretti-Jellison. Proud and loving “Grammy, Nana, and GG” to many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sister of Henry King of Sandwich and Paul King of ME. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
