Leo Amendola

Leo Amendola, 86, of North Falmouth, passed away following complications of congestive heart failure at Brigham and Women’s Hospital on February 17, 2021.

Leo was born on September 30, 1934 to parents Anna (LaScala) and Antonio Amendola in Messina, Sicily. His family arrived in the US when he was just 1 ½ years old, and settled in Natick MA.

Leo graduated from Mass College of Pharmacy in 1956. He also did a short term with the U.S. Army and later served in the Army Reserves.

He was the proud owner of Post Road Apothecary in Sudbury, MA, where he loved serving the community for over 30 years. He was renowned for his warmth, kindness, patience, and sense of humor. He always went above and beyond for anyone in need. He loved people and people loved him.

Leo lived in Marlboro with his wife, Dottie, and two daughters for over 40 years. As a family man, they enjoyed many summer trips to the Cape. Leo would eventually retire to North Falmouth, known to this community for his same positive outlook and endearing qualities. His hobbies included working in his yard with his many beautiful flowers and his outstanding annual tomatoes. He especially enjoyed relaxing at the beach, particularly Old Silver. Later in life, even just gazing from the car, he was fascinated by the wind surfers at Chapoquoit Beach. Indoors, Leo was an avid poker player and also enjoyed cribbage. He loved wining and dining with his wife of 61 years, as well as their movie nights out.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Dottie (of North Falmouth) and also his truly devoted daughters Linda Amendola (of Falmouth) and Dawn Flannery (of Stoughton) and her husband Mike. “Nonno” leaves behind his adored grandchildren Nicholas and Caroline Flannery. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as cousins and great nieces and nephews. He had a special affection for his beloved niece Cara Shaw (of Southboro) and nephew Frank Barbieri (of San Francisco). Also of special note, he leaves behind his beloved sister in-law Kay Hesson and husband Dick and beloved brother in-law Paul Hesson (all of FL). He was predeceased by his dear sister, Rose (of Framingham) and husband Frank Barbieri.

A private funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Seton Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Falmouth. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in the spring and summer. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Leo to a Charity of One’s Choice.
