James A. Erickson

James A. Erickson, of West Barnstable, formerly of Sandwich, was called home to be with the Lord on July 16, 2020.

James was born in Middleboro, MA, the son of Ronald and Priscilla “Pete” Erickson and graduated from Sandwich High School in 1959.

He served in the Massachusetts National Guard, Buzzards Bay and he also served on the Sandwich Police Department from 1965 to 1970.

James worked at the Cape Cod Times from 1960 to 2004, he was the Union President of the Communication Workers of America for the New Bedford-Standard Times and the Cape Cod Times.  He was also the owner and operator of Jim’s Small Engine Repair.

As an avid outdoorsman and hunter, he was a Life Member of the NRA, and Shawme Fish & Game Club.  He was also a member of Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church in Sandwich where he renewed his faith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Dianne (Backer) Erickson, son Eric Erickson and his wife Ann of Pocasset, son Christopher Erickson and wife Paula of Anson, ME, daughter Lynne Oakley and husband Scott of W. Barnstable, his 98 years old Aunt Elizabeth “Betty” Florindo of Wareham, grandchildren Michael Erickson, Erica Pound, Tyler Oakley, Carter Oakley and great granddaughter Ava.  He is also survived by his sister Karen Carafoli and husband Richard of Sagamore Beach, MA.

A graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, July 24th at the Sandwich Town Cemetery, Route 130, Sandwich.  A gathering will be held at the cemetery before the burial beginning at 10 am.
