Francis “Frank” P. Donovan

1926 ∼ 2020

BOURNE - Francis P. Donovan, perhaps better known as “Frank,” passed away on September 1, 2020.

He was born on September 12, 1926, in the Bronx, New York, to parents John and Mae.  An extremely bright student, Frank skipped 3rd grade, later attended the prestigious Regis High School, and then accepted a full academic scholarship to Fordham University (also in the Bronx).

World War II interrupted his college career.  He entered the Navy, and served his time on a destroyer as it went around the world.  At the end of the war, he completed his degree, and was immediately offered a position with Metropolitan Life Insurance.  He never left.  He swiftly worked his way up through the ranks to Vice-President, and retired after 40 years with the company.

It was at Met Life that he met his wife, Gloria.  They were married for 47 years until her passing in 1999.  They lived in New Jersey, then Long Island, and eventually settled in Gray Gables on Cape Cod, in a beautiful home right on the water, fulfilling one of Frank’s lifelong dreams.  He was an avid golfer (a member of the Pocasset Country Club), loved Sudoku and crossword puzzles, and playing with the stock market.  A wonderful provider, he put all 4 of his children and his wife through college.

He leaves behind his 2 sons and 2 daughters, Michael, Maureen, Mark and Kathleen, as well as his son-in-law, Gary Cearlock, and his daughter-in-law, Dana Donovan.

His funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 841 Shore Rd., Pocasset.

Burial will be private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
