Dear Rose family, I was very saddened to learn of Mary's passing. What a wonderful and talented person she was. I met Mary many years ago. Her dear friend, the late Irene Burgess who owned Irene's House of Flowers, introduced us. Mary often baked goodies for our various functions. I soon convinced her to make her luscious fig and lemon squares for me for several years. Mary was the sweetest person one could know and will be dearly missed. Rest in Heavenly peace, Mary. With my deepest heartfelt sympathy. Elna Hulbert

Dear Marian and Jenny and family of Mary Vieira Rose, My family first met the Vieira family when we moved to Onset when I was 5 years old. The Balla’s and Vieira’s were close for many years. One day in the early 1970’s as I drove out of the parking lot of Angelo’s Super Market, I noticed a woman’s purse in the street. I retrieved it and found that it belonged to Mary Rose. Knowing who she was and where she lived I immediately drove to her home on Onset Avenue. With purse in hand I knocked on the front door and was greeted by an anxious but very grateful Mary Rose who upon seeing the purse announced that she had just returned home minutes before my arrival and stated that she realized that she had placed her purse on top of her vehicle while loading groceries into the trunk of her car. Our family relationship was rekindled on that day and has remained wonderful ever since. My husband and I even had the honor and pleasure of attending her 100th Birthday Celebration. Mary Vieira Rose you are loved and will be missed by many. Ruby (Balla) Brown

I can not remember the first time I met Mary Rose, I do remember her sweet disposition and the loving feeling I received whenever in her presence. My mother LoLa would visit Mary and her brother and sister at times. in 1960's she was an inspirational person in supporting our troops at the Otis Air Force base USO. She arranged a ball for the troops that including dancing and socializing to bring cheer to our service members. In later years my sister Jeanette & I would visit her. Her devoted and loving presence will be missed at the Cape Verdian Festival.
