Cheryl L. Alessi

ALESSI – Cheryl L. (Congdon), 76, of Falmouth MA, formerly of Conway SC, Reston VA and Medfield MA, passed away after a lengthy illness on Monday, October 5, 2020.  Daughter of the late David and Marian (Wilkens) Congdon.  Granddaughter of George E and Viola (Grant) Wilkens. Born in Framingham MA, she grew up a 6th generation Medfield resident on Vinald Rd along with her twin cousins Janet and Joanne Carlson.  Cheryl loved Cape Cod and moved to Falmouth in 2018 to be near her cousin Janet.

A graduate of Dedham High School, Cheryl worked as a bookkeeper/accountant for Music Educators National Conference in Reston VA until her retirement and relocation to Conway SC.

Cheryl loved life and lived it to the fullest. She loved to travel and marveled at the natural beauty of the United States as she visited as many states and National Parks as possible.  She often traveled and cruised with her cousin and lifelong friends from Medfield.

Her real passion was horses.  An avid horse woman, Cheryl was one of the first members of the Clifton Horse Society in VA.  She would trailer her horse from VA to NH and VT to participate yearly in their Cross-State Riding Club, camping and cross country riding, and visiting family and friends while in New England. Cheryl always worked to perfect her equestrian skills and win the trust and develop a bond with her horses. Over the years this mutual love and respect resulted in many awards for different equestrian events including hunter-jumping, western horsemanship, carriage driving and long distance endurance competitions.  And with this came many long lasting friendships through the years.

Cheryl’s love of animals didn’t end with horses.  Many feline and canine charities benefitted from her generosity over the years. Cheryl had a big heart and an open door, and personally adopted many unfortunate or homeless cats in her lifetime. But more than once she remarked that it was her beloved cats that rescued her as much as she helped them.

Cheryl is survived by her cousin Janet Carlson Procek of Mashpee MA. There are no public services scheduled at this time.  Final arrangements will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the following:
