Gordon Clifford (“Mac”) Macklin, 88, of West Yarmouth, died on July 6, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Jeanne (Bourque) Macklin for over 60 years.
Gordon was born December 21, 1923 in Harrisville, New Hampshire and was raised in Clinton, Massachusetts. Gordon graduated from Clinton High School in June 1941 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy, recognizing that the United States was heading into World War II. Gordon was in the Navy for seven years before returning to Clinton. After Gordon retired from a career as a heavy equipment foreman, he volunteered at Cape Cod Hospital for 22 years, until the age of 80. Gordon and his wife Jeanne have been residents of West Yarmouth for over 35 years.
Above all else, however, Gordon’s defining qualities have been his eternal optimism, his appreciation for every good fortune in his life and the depth of his regard for his wife Jeanne.
Gordon is survived by his wife Jeanne and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his daughter Maureen Bjorkman and grandson Mark Bjorkman.
At the request of Mr. Macklin’s family, services will be private. Mr. Macklin will be interned at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in his memory to: Cape Cod Times Needy Fund, P.O. Box 36, Hyannis, Ma 02601 www.needyfund.org
